The System
What is D6 Storyteller?
D6 Storyteller is a fiction-first tabletop roleplaying engine that resolves uncertain actions with pools of six-sided dice.
Before any dice are rolled, the table answers one guiding question: what is happening in the fiction? Your character's narrative position (whether you're cornered, holding the high ground, or working with incomplete information) determines how many dice you roll and how much effect your action can have.
The result never just says "you succeed" or "you fail." It generates narrative consequence: partial results, complications, opportunities, and costs. The story moves forward regardless of the outcome.
No proprietary dice. No lookup tables. No arithmetic heavier than counting dice. Just standard six-sided dice, descriptive characters, and the fiction your group creates together.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is D6 Storyteller?
D6 Storyteller is a fiction-first tabletop roleplaying system created by Alex Merced. It uses pools of standard six-sided dice to resolve uncertain actions, with narrative position and consequences driving play rather than complex numerical modifiers.
Which book should I start with?
Start with D6 Storyteller: The Core Rulebook. It contains the complete rules engine plus ten starter worlds spanning multiple genres. Once your group is comfortable with the system, any companion volume can be added.
Do I need the Core Rulebook to use a companion?
Each companion contains a summary of the core mechanics, but the Core Rulebook provides the full rules reference, character creation guidance, and the Storyteller's guide. Groups new to the system are encouraged to begin there.
What dice does D6 Storyteller use?
Only standard six-sided dice (d6): the kind found in almost any board game. No proprietary or unusual dice are required.
Does each companion contain ten settings?
Yes. Every companion volume in the D6 Storyteller series contains ten complete, ready-to-play settings for that genre. Each setting includes unique mechanics, archetypes, a condition palette, and a starter scenario.
Can I mix settings and mechanics from different books?
Absolutely. The D6 Storyteller engine is designed to be modular. Setting-specific mechanics from any companion can be combined with lore and worlds from any other book in the series.
