About This Book

D6 Storyteller: Horror, Occult & Supernatural Companion expands the core system with ten horror settings, genre-specific mechanics, starter adventures, and custom character sheets. Each setting is designed to put genuine dread and meaningful consequence at the center of play.

Horror works best when the mechanics serve the fiction. In this companion, uncovering the truth in Cult of the City permanently alters how your dice work: knowledge is power, but it costs you pieces of your sanity. In The Harvest Village, the villagers are not hostile yet, but every transgression of their customs ticks the Harvest Clock closer to catastrophe. In Summer of ‘84, surviving longer simply means you are more likely to be The Final Girl.

Each of the ten settings includes a complete atmospheric overview, unique mechanical hook, three genre-appropriate archetypes, a horror-tuned condition palette, and a starter scenario seed with three-layer scene design. Safety and tone tools are highlighted in dark and extreme genre entries, giving Storytellers practical guidance for running horror responsibly.

This companion is fully compatible with the D6 Storyteller Core Rulebook and all other volumes in the series. Horror mechanics from this book (Sanity erosion, the Isolation Clock, Blood Hunger) can be imported into other settings to add dread to campaigns that started in different genres.

The Ten Settings

Each setting is a complete playable world with its own tone, mechanic, archetypes, and starter scenario.

Cult of the City

Private investigators in 1930s New York uncover cosmic horror cults operating out of high-society speakeasies.

Mechanic: Sanity & Occult Clues: Uncovering eldritch truths grants clues but permanently replaces standard approach dice with Insanity dice.

Summer of '84

Teen counselors at an isolated forest camp try to survive an unstoppable masked killer.

Mechanic: Isolation Clock & Final Girl: The last surviving counselor gains +2d6 to all rolls during the final confrontation.

The Back-Rooms

Explorers trapped in an infinite, non-Euclidean labyrinth of liminal spaces and hum-buzzing yellow rooms.

Mechanic: Liminal Drift & Reality Anchor: Wandering too far from reality anchors increases spatial distortion and entity encounters.

Nightfall Dominion

Modern vampire families rule major cities from the shadows, waging gang wars for territory and blood supply.

Mechanic: Blood Hunger & Frenzy: Suppressing blood hunger imposes stress conditions; releasing it grants superhuman rolls but risks frenzy.

The Harvest Village

An isolated 17th-century village worships an ancient earth deity demanding bizarre seasonal sacrifices.

Mechanic: Ritual Purity & Harvest Clock: Violating village taboos advances the Harvest Sacrifice clock toward player selection.

Quarantine Zone

Survivors navigate a ruined urban sprawl crawling with fast-moving infected and hostile militarized bands.

Mechanic: Infection Meter & Noise Suppression: Loud actions draw horde danger clocks; bitten characters track infection progression.

Flesh & Biopunk

A Victorian society where surgery and living tissue grafts have replaced mechanical technology entirely.

Mechanic: Graft Rejection & Organic Mutation: Living tissue mods enhance physical stats but risk graft rejection conditions.

Paranormal Unit

Modern paranormal investigators armed with EMF meters and salt canisters clear haunted locations for clients.

Mechanic: EMF Frequency & Manifestation: Tracking spirit EMF activity predicts when ghost physical manifestations will occur.

Dark Souls of the Ash

A dying grimdark world where the sun has gone out and travelers carry lanterns fueled by human memories.

Mechanic: Kindle Memory & Hollow State: Burning memories refills lanterns; running out of memories turns characters Hollow.

Nightmare Realm

Agents enter the shared dream realm of coma patients to battle inner demons and nightmare entities.

Mechanic: Lucidity & Reality Check: Maintaining dream lucidity allows manipulation of dream physics; losing it traps players in nightmare loops.
