D6 Storyteller: Quirky, Experimental & Micro-Scale Companion

A Fiction-First Tabletop Roleplaying Expansion & 10 Quirky, Experimental & Micro-Scale Settings

By Alex Merced

Available in: Paperback · Kindle

About This Book

D6 Storyteller: Quirky, Experimental & Micro-Scale Companion is the series’ most playful volume: a collection of ten settings that deliberately expand the boundaries of what tabletop RPG play can look like. Not every campaign needs to be epic. Sometimes you are a four-inch borrower terrified of the family cat. Sometimes you are a stuffed bear protecting a sleeping child from the closet. Sometimes you are a time cop desperately trying to prevent someone from changing the 1987 World Series.

These settings prove that the fiction-first D6 engine scales to any premise. The Household Hazard mechanic in Borrowers of the Hearth makes a running vacuum cleaner a genuine boss encounter. Narrative Consistency in Living Manuscripts means players must stay true to the plot of the book they’ve entered or risk the story collapsing around them. Paradox Meter in Chrono Patrol creates genuine tension even in a comedic time-travel setting: the stakes are real, even if the tone is light.

Each of the ten settings includes full world overview, a unique mechanic, three genre-appropriate archetypes, a condition palette, and a complete starter scenario. Tone guidance is included to help groups calibrate their play: these settings range from cozy adventure to biting satire to light horror.

This companion is fully compatible with the D6 Storyteller Core Rulebook and all other volumes in the series.

The Ten Settings

Each setting is a complete playable world with its own tone, mechanic, archetypes, and starter scenario.

Borrowers of the Hearth

Tiny four-inch-tall people live inside the walls of a suburban home, scavenging needles and defending against cats.

Mechanic: Scale Difference & Household Hazard: Everyday household objects (vacuum cleaner, cat, ceiling fan) function as boss hazards.

Iron Chef Dungeon

Adventuring chefs hunt dangerous dungeon monsters to cook legendary magical dishes in a competitive culinary world.

Mechanic: Ingredient Rarity & Flavor Profile: Cooking monster meat grants temporary stat buffs based on dish quality and presentation.

Plastic Warfare

Green plastic toy soldiers come alive in a child's bedroom to fight epic battles against yellow construction vehicles.

Mechanic: Molded Plastic Armor & Melt Threat: Plastic bodies are immune to small punctures but vulnerable to heat sources.

Kingdom of the Ant

Sentient insects (ants, beetles, mantises) build medieval empires in a suburban backyard garden.

Mechanic: Exoskeleton Armor & Flight Wing: Beetles possess heavy armor; dragonflies gain flight maneuverability.

Insert Coin

Teenagers get sucked inside classic 1980s arcade cabinet games and must beat high scores to escape.

Mechanic: Extra Lives & Coin Credit: Players have 3 extra life tokens; dying consumes a credit to respawn with full health.

Monopoly of Empires

Citizens live on a giant living board game grid where moving between tiles requires paying rent or taking chance cards.

Mechanic: Chance Roll & Rent Payment: Stepping on property tiles forces rent negotiations; landing on Chance triggers wild random events.

Living Manuscripts

Librarians enter classic books to fix corrupted storylines caused by ink-eating bookworm demons.

Mechanic: Narrative Consistency: Deviating too far from the original book plot causes storyline collapse conditions.

Night Nightmare

Stuffed animals come alive at night to defend their sleeping children from closet monsters and bed-monsters.

Mechanic: Stuffing Integrity & Child's Comfort: Losing stuffing reduces physical stats; keeping the child sleeping grants bonus Momentum.

Duelists of the Deck

Duelists battle using magical cards that summon real monsters, traps, and spells into physical reality.

Mechanic: Deck Draw & Life Points: Drawing from a customized card deck dictates available actions; life points track match status.

Chrono Patrol

Time-traveling agents fix historical paradoxes caused by rogue time terrorists trying to change the past.

Mechanic: Paradox Meter & Butterfly Effect: Altering major historical events accumulates Paradox, risking personal erasure.
