Please Hold: The Interdimensional
Customer Service at the Edge of the Multiverse: When Every Customer is From a Different Reality and None of Them Read the Terms of Service
Nexus Support Solutions is the only customer service organization operating across all known dimensions, providing post-sale support for every product, service, or reality that generates complaints. The players are NSS representatives handling disputes from alternate timelines, interdimensional purchases gone wrong, existential warranty claims, and the occasional call from a dimension that has achieved philosophical objections to the very concept of customer service and would like to register that complaint formally. Every caller has a different concept of time, reality, identity, and what constitutes a 'reasonable resolution.'
“Thank you for calling Nexus Support Solutions. My name is Representative 7-Gamma. I understand your dimension was experiencing an issue with the reality product you purchased. Can you confirm your timeline serial number? I’ll need to place you on a brief hold while I access your account. The hold music is calibrated to be neutral across most conscious experience types. If you experience the hold music as a threat, please press 2.”

1. Setting Overview & Tone
High-Concept Pitch: If reality is a product, someone is going to complain about it.
Nexus Support Solutions occupies a station outside the normal flow of dimensional time, staffed by beings drawn from various realities who have been assessed as having the temperament, flexibility, and communication skills required to assist customers from any possible reality configuration.
The players are NSS representatives. They handle calls. The calls come from beings experiencing problems with products, services, and realities that NSS’s client companies have sold them. The problems range from genuinely technical to philosophically profound to completely made up by the caller but nonetheless requiring formal documentation.
Tone: This is the call center experience taken to its logical interdimensional extreme. The customers are not malicious (usually). The representatives genuinely want to help. The company policies were written for situations that don’t apply here. All of this is completely, precisely accurate to the actual customer service experience, scaled to the multiverse.
Sensory Pillars:
- Sight: The NSS floor: rows of workstations with screens capable of displaying communication formats from any known reality type, representatives of various dimensional origins wearing the same regulation headset (sized differently for each species but identical in quality), a performance dashboard showing live Resolution Ratings, and a supervisor’s elevated station where management watches the metrics with visible concern.
- Sound: The constant background of dozens of simultaneous customer calls in dozens of languages/frequencies/communication types, the specific tone of a call that has been escalated (audibly different from a standard call despite being completely arbitrary), smooth jazz hold music in the standard neutral frequency band, and the very specific silence that follows “I need to speak to your supervisor.”
- Touch & Smell: The ergonomic sameness of the NSS workstation, designed to be functional for any body type but optimal for none, the smell of the NSS cafeteria’s dimensional compromise cuisine (good for no species, acceptable for most), and the physical weight of the company policy manual (large, dense, genuinely comprehensive, and immediately inadequate for any actual situation).
The Core Tension: Company policy exists. Customers’ problems exist. These two things exist in different realities and must somehow be reconciled on every call.

2. NSS Operations
Tier 1: General Support
Handles the 80% of calls that are straightforward misunderstandings: customers who didn’t read the dimensional terms of service, calibration issues with purchased realities, billing disputes across time zones that technically don’t overlap, and beings who are complaining about the wrong company.
Tier 2: Escalated Cases
The 15% of calls that require actual problem-solving: timeline damage from a defective product, existential warranty claims, inter-dimensional disputes about who the actual customer is when a purchase was made collectively by an entire civilization, and beings who are correct that something went wrong and it was not their fault.
Tier 3: Executive Resolution
The 5% of cases that require company authority to resolve: full reality refunds, timeline restoration services, compensation for civilizations significantly impacted by product defects, and the occasional call from a being who is, technically, the physical embodiment of a concept and has a very interesting warranty claim.
Management
Entirely focused on Resolution Ratings, call handle time, and customer satisfaction scores. Profoundly disconnected from the actual content of calls. Occasionally makes policy decisions based on patterns that make statistical sense and practical none.

3. Adventure Seeds
-
The Timeline Defect: A caller claims their purchased “stable timeline” product has been destabilizing for three weeks. This is a Tier 2 escalation minimum. Investigation reveals the defect is real but was caused by the caller’s own actions — which they performed because the timeline was already destabilizing. Causality loop. Requires resolution.
-
The Collective Complaint: Forty million beings are calling simultaneously about the same issue because they share a hive consciousness and all experience calls as one entity. The NSS system is treating this as forty million separate calls. The queue implications are significant.
-
The Supervisor Call: A caller who has been escalated repeatedly over three weeks is demanding the actual CEO of the company that sold them their reality. The CEO is a concept that exists differently across dimensions. Finding a version of the CEO who can take this call requires research.
-
The Wrong Company: A caller’s dimension is experiencing catastrophic reality failure. Investigation reveals this is not NSS’s product or client company. NSS is not responsible. The caller is about to cease to exist and there is only one company that could help and NSS can connect the call but cannot guarantee the other company will answer. Technically this is not NSS’s problem. Practically.
-
The Perfect Review: A caller has given NSS a perfect satisfaction score but left a review that contains information about events that haven’t happened yet. The review is in the future. The customer apparently had an excellent experience. Now the representatives must ensure that experience occurs.
