The Bone Carvers of Extinct Beasts
In the Marrow Lives the Echo of the Beast
In the frozen glacial valleys of the Frost-Spire Range, humanity lives alongside the colossal fossilized skeletons of extinct megafauna: mammoth titans, dire serpents, and dragon-birds. The Guild of Bone Carvers harvests these ancient fossilized bones, carving intricate magical runes and tools from the marrow-stone. Weapons carved from mammoth bone hit with seismic impact; charms carved from dire-serpent ribs grant resistance to cold and venom. But as carvers dig deeper into a mega-mammoth skeleton buried under the central glacier, they uncover a bone core that is still warm and pulsing.
“Wood rots, iron rusts, but the bone of the Great Mammoth endures forever. Respect the marrow, or the beast’s spirit will claim your hands.”
- Master Carver Torak

1. Setting Overview and Tone
The Frost-Spire Valleys are a stark, snow-covered realm where human settlements are built literally inside the ribcages of ancient leviathans.
Bone carving is both an art and a sacred magic. Carvers use obsidian chisels and diamond-tipped hand drills to unlock the spiritual energy trapped in fossilized marrow.
Tone: Tribal, mythic, visceral, and primal. Blends ice-age survival with runic magic and beast lore.
Sensory Pillars:
- Sight: Towering white ribcages jutting out of snow drifts like gothic arches. Fires reflecting off polished ivory blades covered in glowing blue runes.
- Sound: The rhythmic tap-tap-tap of obsidian chisels on hard bone. The howling glacial wind through rib-canyon formations. The deep hum of activated bone runes.
- Touch and Smell: Cold smooth ivory, fine bone dust coating hands and lungs, the smell of burning pine pitch and warm bone grease.

2. The Fossil Valleys
The Great Rib-Hall: The central tribal village built inside the ribcage of an ancient 300-foot mega-mammoth.
The Marrow Mines: Deep glacial shafts where carvers extract rare, un-fossilized marrow-stone.
The Tooth Quarry: A jagged cliffside littered with ten-foot dire-serpent fangs used for heavy weapon forging.
—
3. Factions
The Carvers Guild: Traditional artisans who follow sacred hunting and carving rites to honor the extinct beasts.
The Frost-Tribe Hunters: Warriors who wield runic bone weapons to defend the valley from glacier trolls and dire wolves.
The Marrow Breakers: Outlaw scrap-scavengers who use explosives to shatter ancient skeletons for quick bone harvests, destroying the spirit resonance.
